In January 2006, Professor Shinsuke Shimojo (下條信輔;1955-, Ph.D. from MIT in 1985) from CalTech (Division of Biology/Computation and Neural Systems) visited Taipei as an invited speaker of Workshop on Brain and Cognition held at National Taiwan University (NTU).

Following the 5-day workshop, there was a special talk for science education in Taipei Astronomical Museum. He introduced his recent researches and how he has applied the scientific findings into vision exhibitions in the two Science Museums he and the artist Noriyuki Tanaka have helped to build a couple of permanent museum exhibitions in Japan.

Professor Shimojo has successfully combined science, art, and education in designing museum activities, and his work has encouraged us to hold a similar local exhibition in the hope that visitors will experience and interact with the displays and discover the mystery and the joy of science.

After visiting the two museums in Japan with the help of Professor Shimojo’s detailed guidance, feasible ideas have emerged, and thus formed this proposal. We have seen how successful these exhibitions are in Japan that many visitors enjoy being in the museum, that science education can be realized joyfully, and that how science and art can meet with each other in interactive activities.

With enough supports, this exhibition shall certainly be a successful science education for the public and students.
