Special topics on perception and attention

The targeting students of this course are PhD students in the field of cognitive science, in the format of face-to-face discussion with the teacher weekly. The goal of this course is to complete a research project including the writing of a journal article. The course will cover several important issues in the domain of visual perception and attention and issues about how these two domains are integrated to reveal the current trends of interdisciplinary integration. Because technology development is the key to research breakthrough, the course will also cover the results from studies using methods such as single cell recording, ERP, MEG, and fMRI. Students are required, under supervision, to survey and discuss literatures, to propose the hypotheses, design, carry out and analyze the results of experiments, and to complete the writing and submission of the paper to a journal article. All of these are expected to finish within a year.
